Where would you spent an extra day in Mumbai or Delhi? I currently have 2 nights in Delhi and 2 in Mumbai planned with another night to add for our 12 day trip. All opinions welcome.

Personally I love Delhi it's a vibrant alive city, Luydens Delhi is a joy to behold, with it's open maidens and monuments! Old Delhi is as gay and colourful as anything on offer countrywide.
Older towns have left their mark, as have the Mughals and every other nation/religion who called Delhi home through the years!!
If you've time, a read of City Of Djinns by William Dalrymple will add to the mystique, I really look forward to my stays in Delhi, something I seldom say about other Indian towns or cities!!
But now the confession I've never been to Mumbai so I'm a tad biased
A certain "Soulcurry" has a wide knowledge of both I believe and I'm sure Mumbia wallahs will be along shortly to "sell" their wonderful city yaar!!

I don't know Delhi, but I can recommend Mumbai!
There's so much to do and see there, and you can walk along the beach!
Take a look at this link for ideas on how to spend your extra day in Mumbai:

I love Mumbai to pieces, I do! But speaking objectively, I'd pick Delhi over it any day if given extra time to explore it.
- Delhi has loads of wonderful, wonderful monuments. Especially in South Delhi. I've been exploring them idly these past 15 years & still haven't had my fill. Jamaali-Kamaal ki Masjid, Balban's tomb, Masjid Moth, the little mosque beyond Humayun's tomb, Purana Qila, Tughalaqabad fort.. the list is endless.
- Delhi has a superb variety to offer for the serious souvenir hunter. The State Emporia Complex on Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Dilli Haat, Central Cottage Industries Emporium, to name but a few. I've discovered this little shop called "Industree" which sells amazing stuff made of jute & river grass. This is also located in the State Emporia Complex.
- As someone who takes eating very seriously, I find Delhi remarkable. The range in terms of cuisines & budgets is mnd-blowing.
- Delhi's Crafts Mseum is a nice little place to spend a quiet afternoon.
Mumbai? Hmm.
- Bombay Gothic. Spead over about 3 kms. Best seen from outside.
- Various markets - madly fascinating, if crowds don't frighten you.
- Lovely art & theatre scene. But honestly, ought a traveller to spend their precious time & money on this?
- Some unique cuisine: Irani/Parsi, Managalorean, Gomantak.
I'm stumped.
If you ask me, I'd pick Delhi to visit, but Bombay to live in

Pleased by life's gauds, pained by its pinpricks and stings,
Swayed by ignoble hopes, ignoble fears;
Threading life's tangled maze without life's clue,
Busy with means, yet heedless of their ends.....

I appreciate all of your responses. It appears that for the traveler Delhi might be the right choice to explore more of the sites that India has to offer. I will try to include more time in Mumbai if I make a 2nd trip to South India. Thanks!

I have been to both and would choose Mumbai. I love the ocean and seeing the big ships in the bay. I have to admit, however, that I was only in Mumbai for 2 nights!
