You know if I was a rich guy I'd have one of those Archos mobile DVRs 100GB storage plays video on a LCD screen or Directly from the TV, stores video in various formats, mp3, jpeg etc etc

You can record DVDs on this, straight from the TV, so no encryption code to remove, all in all a great toy for photographers and other travellers!!

However at nearly 800 Euros here in The Netherlands it will have to wait  :)  :)

Check out the JOBO GigaVu Pro [various sizes, we got 60GB the largest available at the time - now they have come out with larger ones] A great device - a mobile hard drive and so much more.  A really nice and useful toy.  Check it out at: JOBO  The price seems to be coming down as newer, bigger models are created.

OR Jobo One [ours is 40GB - not enough for a trip, but larger than a memory card by far -  (the little Jobo does not have too many features, but is much less expensive and smaller, physically, and you can still save a lot - though I found it annoying that we couldn't view anything or delete anything in using it; it really is just a mini- very mini - mobile hard drive]

Next trip, I'm getting another [larger?] GigaVu and hope to trade-in the Jobo One.

We initially bought one of each; redundancy is what I need when downloading photos.  After using them both, I see that the additional features on the GigaVu are necessary for me.

We came back with 10,000 photos 3-4MB each and about 5 videos.  I ran out of room on the Jobo One, but still had about 20% free space on the GiguVu.  We carried 3 1GB cards and I downloaded and reformatted each evening - not a time-consuming process, as long as you have electricity available.  It does have an internal battery so even when there is no electricity, you do have a certain amount of time to download as long as you can eventually recharge.
