I have been remiss in not noting the recent death of the great Ali Akbar Khan at age 88. Here is a very nice piece by Sandip Roy, a fellow Bengali ex-pat who, like Khansahib, also lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. http://news.newameri...67ffac892389469
(FYI, here's a link to Sandip's blog: http://blogs.newamer....org/sandip-roy
Sandip also has his own program on one of our local public radio stations, KALW, http://www.kalw.org/index.html, which is also available on-line )

That is a very nice tribute from Sandip Roy; thanks for the link!
Ali Akhbar Khan was one of the first Indian musicians I heard in concert; he opened many new doors for me. The world is a quieter place without him.

Even after becoming one of the most famous classical musicians Ustad Ali Akbar Khan remained a very humble person. I will never forget the concert I had attended in the 70's in Delhi where the Jugalbandi of Ali Akbar & Ravishankar with Ustad Alla Rakha on Tabla simply mesmerised us.
