Khamosh=Silent, Pani=Water
This one is a film by Sabiha Sumar the story of which begins in 1979 in Pakistan. The country is under President General Zia-ul-Haq's martial law leading to Islamic law. Ayesha is a well adjusted middle-aged woman living with her gentle dreamy 18 year old son Saleem surviving on her dead husband's meagre pension & money earned by giving Quran lessons to young girls. Saleem is in love with Zubeida but becomes intensely involved with Islamic fundementalists and eventually leaves Zubeida. Ayesha is saddened to see her son change radically.
Events escalate when Sikh pilgrims from India pour in to their village. One of the pilgrims looks for his sister Veero who was abducted in 1947 leading to unfolding of heart-rending memories.

Kiron Kher & Aamir Malik have done excellent work and with Sumar's great direction the film has won 14 international awards including Golden Leopord.
