It had been some time since we had been planning for the trip to the Kumaun hills near Nainital. Being close to Delhi(overnight journey), we had all agreed that Nainital was our best bet given our time constraints.

All geared up we realised that we need to get some trekking gear for all of us before we can go ahead. And then started our frantic search for camping gear in the crowded sarojini nagar and CP market. We found some stuff to our liking but we were really looking for some hardcore camping gear which was hard to find.

We packed our brand new backpacks with the tents and camping gear we had bought and boarded the Ranikhet Express.

Next norning we reached Kathgodam from where we boarded a bus that took us to our camping site at Sattal. We had a exhilirating experience for the next five days trekking around in the nearby hills, cooking our food the way the stone-age man would have done etc etc. Sattal has seven lakes surrounded by towering hills and we would set out for trekking in the nearby virgin forests every morning with the entire team and return to camp in the evening. The camp is managed by professionals from the Himalaysn insitute of maountaineering and are affiliated to the Uttaranchal tourism department also. Those looking for a short but refreshing experience in the mountains should consider a trip to sattal. Its worth every penny.
