Hi

OK not now redundant, job has been saved a 2nd time (so lucky)  - the joys of retail management. Soooooo my trip is now of 2 weeks and 6 days then 2 weeks at work and a 2nd trip to sherabling Monastery of 2 weeks!!!! (not the original proposed 11 weeks) yeah, Husband thinks I'm mad but hey life is for living.

The plan is possibly to stay somewhere really nice the only place I know of (went there for tea) is the Imperial in Delhi!! I usually stay in Potala House or Himalaya House in Manju Ka tilla from extreme to the other.

Then upto McLeod Ghanj, already booked a room at Chonor House (H H Dalai Lama is giving teachings for 1 day) I'll be there then upto Manali to Lamala's unfinished (no electricity - sleeping in a huge room with his 120 ani's) so my trip is far from luxury all the way!

Over to you for your recommendations, things that I need to consider are

I am travelling alone (I know I said I wouldn't do it again... but...) never say never.

I am considering travelling by taxi to McLeod my memories of the Volvo bus are of a long very cold night.  any ideas how much the fare would be?

Possible 2nd flight to Gaggal?

OK havent really got a clue just know that I am going.  Please suggest a bit of an itinerary in Delhi but consider I find Delhi a bit scary

OK time for supper, its cold and very wet here in Sussex I've had a day off today and been up onto the Ashdown Forest with our 2 border collies and its very muddy.  Soon be spring.  Whats the weather like in Delhi and Manali/

i would imagine that kullukid will be along soon to recommend the prince polonia hotel in delhi soon. :(

there have been some wonderful threads here about delhi, many started by delhi local jyotirmoy - have a good look through the delhi section and i should imagine that you will end up with not enough time to see all the places you will end up wanting to see.

and i would imagine a delhi meetup should be obligatory. :D

cold and wet you say - hot and dry here, and looking to stay that way for a couple of months at least.
just is.

Susanj - a quiet place to stay in Delhi would be the Master Guest House, but it is advisable to book.  It really is nice, even though rather pricey - small, safe and secure too, run by a lovely couple.  Highly recommended.

Nah!! it doesn't really compare when Susan's talking Imperial & Chonor House....different kettle of fish. Priya's suggestion is good for "Something Different" though.

Susan the Qutab Minar is one of my fave tourist sights in Delhi, have you been? if not check it out.

I made a few suggestions for things to see around Mananli on your previous thread, don't know if you saw it?

Ask the Delhi crew to take you to the sufi singers at Nizzamudin Durgah, one the most memorable nights I've had in Delhi.

Last year we stayed at the Connaught and were very happy with it..  http://www.theconnaughtnewdelhi.com/  it's just around the corner from the Imperial and a whole lot cheaper.  Efficient staff, good enough restaurant, central.

This year we're going to do the bed and breakfast thing and our agents have recommended this... http://www.trendybb.com/index.html

If I were travelling alone I'd be happy with either option.

We went back to the Qtab for a second look last year - it was worth it.  Another place I'd probably go back to is the crafts museum - fascinating and on a friendly scale - the market area is a good place to shop.

Many of the renowned hotels in India are located in New Delhi. Almost all big hotel chains have their operations in New Delhi. These Delhi hotels offer world-class hospitality and leave an everlasting impression on the minds of tourists.
