A lot of people can't stand touring but to me it's like breathing. I do it because I'm driven to do it.

Hi Mervin, welcome to the Tree!
Why not tell us a bit about yourself and what kind of trips you are interested in and have done. There are lots of great touring possibilities down south and it is great to have another biking member joining us to help provide some insights and up-to-date road information. As we gather some more enthusiasts here, I think some 'week-end ride' meet-ups will be a definite possibility -- and there probably will also be visitors to India interested in finding a riding partner or two for longer trips. So keep in touch, and it wouldn't hurt to mention how handy you are with a wrench and tire irons

Hi m2,
Thanks. Well haven't done many trips as I didnt find partners. So I am normaly single...
I have done trips from Bangalore to Mangalore-manipal-kudremukh.
Have done 5 trips on this route. Would like to make a trip to Goa soon....
Not quite handy with tire irons as I have tried them only once. But can manage as I get to use them more...
how about you, can you shoot a few lines about you....
Are you a rider??

Yep, I still ride, but the long tours are probably behind me now. I got hooked on touring back in the 1970's when I met a couple of guys in central america touring on what was then the standard for that sort of travel, the simple and reliable BMW. It looked like a great way of getting around and later I wound up buying one myself and doing several 4-5 month solo winter trips to Mexico and Guatemala. Most trips since then have been considerably shorter, but I still have a good dual-purpose bike ('81 R65 BMW) ready to roll whenever I feel like a ride. Touring India on a Bullet was something I had kept in the back of my mind for many years (I first visited India in 1969) and finally got around to it in 1995. I bought a Bullet in mid-october and rode north to HP until season slipping away and proceeded south through Rajasthan, Gujurat and Maharashtra to Goa and continuing on to the south before returning to Goa and selling the bike. Something like 10,000km in all, and though it was a great experience overall, having an unreliable bike with lousy brakes and a balky gearbox wasn't one of the highpoints
(thus the wrench comment -- someone familiar with keeping a Bullet happy would probably make a good touring partner
)
While home for me is an island on the west coast of Canada, I spend the winter months in India, much of the time in Goa. I rented a Unicorn for one season and used it for a few short trips as well as local use, and this past winter I tried an Activa scooter which I found very good for shopping and getting around as long as I stayed off the national highway. I'll probably get another Activa this winter and rent a 5-speed for any out of state excursions, so if you will be getting up to Goa during the winter, give me a shout.

give your bullet a hug first time you see her, then start the ignition, turn the petrol on, check if the amp meter is negative, press the decompress to bring it to zero, take a deep breath, and kick. It should start now..no, comon you forgot the Hug!!

Hey Mikeee....
Well that sounds a lot of experiencing touring round the places....I had been to Goa in march.unfortunately not with my bike. But If there are things happening this Winter, will definetly get my bike and will look forward to meet you. So do you still own that Bullet..which model is it?
I have a 82 Model. Painted Carbon black with low seats...thats what I like. I too had problems starting the bike especially early mornings. But now used to it. Like Vinay said Hug her and give her a slight kiss..she should start thumping..
Hi Vinay,
Yeah I do live in Bangalore. I own a 82 Model..standard 350cc. Would love to check out your bike if you happened to be in Bangalore. Where are you put up by the way?

Mervin there are many groups going to Leh, it has become like going to Manali now. Last year there was trips from some publications too, like 'Better photography' and outlook Plus many out there.
Most of the biker from 'my' group like to do it solo and they love it that way.
one you've crossed Manali and Grampho even if you are alone you are not alone, if you understand. so don't be afraid to do it alone, I'm sure you'll love it.
