Hi all,

I'm considering travelling to Shimla, Manali and Dharamsala/Mcleod Ganj  in Jan/Feb.  From Lucknow I intend to head north and visit some of these towns before travelling to Pakistan via Amritsar.  As I only have around a week to play with i'm trying to narrow my choices down. I'm not interested in skiing, trekking or staying in resorts. I am however interested in historical/cultural sites, muesuems, scenary and seeing every day life activities. As I am short of time I'm considering just visiting Dharamsala/Mcleod Ganj  as it has been recommended by a few people and can be easily visited in winter.

Do you think this is feasible? Or do you think my time would be better spent heading from Lucknow straight across to Pakistan and spending more time in Pakistan? I currently have about 2 weeks to visit Pakistan. I intend to visit Lahore, Multan and Islamabad.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!  :D

cheers,

Piraterum

If you want historical/cultural sites and museums, then Shimla is your best bet amongst Shimla/Dharamsala/Manali....but we are scraping the bottom of the barrel here somewhat.

Dharamsala is very popular with the foreigners...all too often with those who want a quick fix of Tibetan culture.

Is there some compelling reason for going to the mountains ? After all, there are also some interesting places to see between Lucknow - Amritsar.
