A great gift for anyone who's interested in that era.  What a shame it isn't on release yet.
'Their people will judge them on what they can build and not what they destroy.
To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent,
know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are
willing to unclench your fist." ~ Barack Obama.

I read it in Almora in March, not a bad read and some interesting insights into how the whole hippydom thing impacted people along the route.

Iranians and Turkish guys saying how it brought a new sense of freedom into their lives. I wrote about it here on the tree I'm sure.
Thanks for the heads up DD.

Thanks, DD... I actually took the original Magic Bus, driven by a young Brit named Greg, on one of its early voyages. I'll look for the book when I get somewhere that has a bookshop; haven't yet seen one here in Puri!

WWUSA, you must have some great stories to tell from that trip (a devine dancing lesson?).

I probably do have some stories from those days, but at the moment, after two weeks of utter sloth here at the beach, can't remember a single one! Remind me when I get back to the USA...  :)

Hi WWUSA, glad to hear your fitting in a bit of sloth, Wish I was there with you.

The book is pretty good, but has little to do with the magic bus.
It does have some great tales and offers a rather optimistic look at the impact of western liberalism and how it gave hope in places like Iran.

WWUSA if you are in the XANADU restaurant please say hallo to Sol the owner from Derek & Ilse, maybe he'll remember us though it's been 10 years since we were last in Puri.

Where are you staying, at the Z hotel??

I had read about a reverse bus trip from Calcutta to Europe by one Ghose (?), though he was turned away from entering Brittain.

Well, I've always enjoyed "road stories," and will look for the book one of these days.

I've left Puri before checking in here ... so can't give your greetings to the folks at Xanadu.... but I intend to be back there for Christmas so will do that then!

Yes, I stayed at the Z and it's as wonderful as ever.

Heading toward Ajmer tomorrow...
