So... I'm back in the US. Have been a couple weeks. I just moved into my short term apt, and the first meal I cooked was Rajma and Jasmine rice! Boy, am I missing Indian food. We went to an Indian restaurant, and it was mediocre at best. Everything on the buffet had been there too long, was watered down in order to make more of it, and bland despite the fact that very few non-desis were eating there. *sigh* Oh, how I am missing good, fresh, homemade Indian food!

And my chapatis last night were *awful*. Apparently atta flour is NOT just simply wheat flour because American wheat flour made some awful, bran-muffin tasting chapatis. Yuck! :)

What to do? A few more months of this and I'll be in total withdrawal!

*Me runs off to go print off all the recipes I haven't been able to use... *

Hi jyoti,

Thought I'd send you this to ease the Pain. It was my last meal in India, at Le Royale, Kochi - Kerala.

*grin* I guess more than anything I miss being PG and having someone cook wonderful, fresh Indian food for me twice a day! lol.

Yay! :indiaflag: I have been jealous of all the food talk around Delhi. Although I will have to find a good South Indian breakfast place -- set dosa, vadai, idli ... yummy!

In which area would you be staying Jyoti? You can expect to get good south Indian food at very few places in Delhi. So better switch to north Indian way !!! Paratha & chilled lassi in summer and khameri roti & nahari in winter.... and also delicious mangoes during the summer.

I'll be attending JNU (God willing) so will be living around that area. I like North Indian food, too, so long as I can find a good South Indian place to pop in every few weeks or so.

In Vasant Kunj, my friends orders from a place with amazing Dahl Makhani. It's my second favorite of Indian food, and never could find any dahl as good in the South. I suppose it's better to stay in one place than travel and always be missing the food from the other place!!

Hahaha... I know the feeeling of craving a specific food. Well, I'm glad to read that you'll be going backto Delhi or are you there now? I bet you're there now and enjoying yourself in the "mediocre restaurant" that I think you kind of love

I am a South Indian guy, settled in USA now. But I miss all those - Idli, Wada Sambhar, Rassam, Sambhar. All the festivals, temples. The celebration's of Pongal, Diwali, Makar Sankraanti are just memories for me. Next time when I will return to India, will love to visit the ISO certified Kapaleeswarar Temple of Mylapore, Chennai and will have all the fun of having my favorite dishes. Kapaleeswarar Temple
