in my experience nokia makes extremely rugged and reliable phones (that also look good!) that can stand up to the rigours of travel, or just being dropped in the toilet at home.
if you get one with a decent screen size with a few megapixel resolution you should be fine.
just is.

Nokia camera phones are cheaper in India and plenty of models to choose from. Check the N series.

Agree with the above comments. Nokia Nseries definitley a good option wen it comes to a gud phone and camera both.
latest from the family is N96, its got a 5 megapixel cam, so good quality pics of mountains wont be a prob.
its sturdy as hell to survive the brunt of travelling.
also its GPS enabled phone so u could be connected wherever u go nad it also got automatic geotagging option...
if u have the moolah to spend on it, then go ahead without second thoughts.

Camera phone!
PHONE!? You're mad, I tell you! Mad! All the way to India, and not even bringing a real camera! The horror.

What phone can come close to even a cheap small camera? Sounds penny wise given an expensive trip to India in the first place..

thanks everyone for your inputs.... my trip has been postponed so I have quite some time to decide on a good camera phone...
and I agree that Nseries is a good option if one wants a good package of camera n other high end functionalities. rony as u mentioned N96, its a good option but its definitley out of my budget.any other suggestions?
@jyoti and ed -
I dont quite agree with you... I know that no way a phone can compare with a high end camera but for sure it can be a great substitute anytime and as a proof I found this on flickr while serching around for mobile phone pics...

check out the pics.. the quality and detailing is quite excellent in the pics.. no way I found that the concept was jeopadrized because it was clicked with a camera phone..
though I would have been realy happy to carry a nice camera but since my restrictions with packing and all.. I was looking for a all in one kind of option.. thus I believe a camera phone wud be apt.

My restrictions with packing? ... If the extra 4 ounces of a camera AND phone is going to mess with your packing scheme, you might want to rethink something....
And yes, a nice camera phone is as good as a super cheap camera... but a decent phone and a decent camera would cost less than a super-expensive phone and give better pics.
