Hello all,
Does anyone know if it is possible to drive the road from Manali to Leh at the end of November? I read that the highway is officially closed some time in October, depending the snow, but does this mean that it is blocked off?
Many thanks,
Martin

Yes it will be blocked off totally by then. The snows come early this year. To give you an idea what blocked means take a look at the photo in this link. KK

Here is the latest news on the Manali To Leh road from Vistet's website

So if you still want to visit Ladakh in November you will have to fly in. If you do, be sure to take your thermals as it will be getting pretty cold by that time.

For starters , it wasn´t possible ten days ago : police , mountain rescue and the Air Force really had their hands full at that time. I´ll post a sxummary later.
There is no real official closing date for the road , what happens is that the Border Roads Organisation at some point says that´s it , we won´t try to keep it open anymore or come after you when you get stuck.
Sometimes you get to see several of these final closing announcements , like in 2006 : first one in mid-November , then another on December 6th - obviously people have found their way in between these dates.
Some generalisations : it get´s iffier after September, the roads via Srinagar and Spiti stay open longer. After September , bring the sleeping bag inside the jeep, and some food.
