Has anyone used this interactive phone service from IRCTC,  it cetainly sounds like a useful service and with so many visitors to India using mobile phones I thought it would be a good idea to bring it to peoples attention.
Just call 139

139 is a very old number, used for railway inquiries by the common man.

And its quite good, I remember exactly 2 years back, was planning to head off to some hill station with one of my friends, and there was no plan whatsoever. It was Friday night, we met at the Patel Nagar metro station to go to either New Delhi Railway station or Old Delhi. But were not sure where were heading yet :blush2:

I called 139, inquiring about some train for Pathankot, he advice me on a train that was due for departure soon, however he also suggested that rather than going to Pathankot, I should go to Chakki Bank, and Pathankot from there is hardly 10 minutes by road. That train will leave after that train to Pathankot, hence we will have more time to reach station and get tickets and also that train was faster than the former train.

So I was quite surprised by the level of service these guys provided, and they actually made a suggestion, that was too big a deal for me.

Yeah the reports I've read have been quite complimentary too. Handy if you've got your mobile and are at a loss with the huge Indian railway network.
