I would recommend a car and driver for your trip.
Cochin > Coonoor via Mettupalyam (7½ hours)
Overnight in Coonoor
Coonoor > Ooty on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (1½ hours)
Sightseeing in Ooty
Ooty > Masinagudi (1½ hours)
Overnight in Masinagudi
Masinagudi > Gudalur and on to the Wynaad for three days
Wynaad > Mysore (4 hours or more, depending on where in the Wynaad you are)
Overnight in Mysore
Mysore > Bangalore (4 hours)
Overnight in Bangalore
Bangalore > Chitradurga (5 hours)
Overnight in Chitradurga
Chitradurga to Hospet (4½ hours)
