Bangalore based film maker Girish Kasaravalli's latest film Gulabi Talkies was screened last night at the Osian Film Fest which ended yesterday. This film bagged the best Indian film award.
Shot in the pristine location at Kundapura a very scenic coastal town the film tells us the story of a muslim midwife Gulabi living alone in a small village on an island. A compulsive movie goer she refused to leave the cinema theater to attend a rich family's daughter going thru difficult delivery. She was bodily lifted out of the theater. She was gifted a satelite dish & a colour television after she helped this lady. The women in the village, all Hindus thronged to her place to watch TV while their men folk went to fish.
The begining of Kargil war cast a dark shadow on the lives of the villagers. Religious fanatism claimed another relationship.
Fabulous acting by noted singer-actress M.D. Pallavi and stunning visuals.
