Wow! Great list Jyoti Da. Look's like i need to spend more time in Delhi :giggle: Did the Zafar Mahal area, just behind Qutab Minar get a mention? I spent a great few hrs there a few yrs back wandering around the Moslem area & the deserted Palace of the last Moghal.

Whoever said Delhi wasn't worth a visit? With a list like that, it's enough to keep the average tourist occupied for weeks, if not months.

Thanks a lot KK for pointing out the omission of Jafar Mahal. So that makes it 175 monuments !!
This one is a three-storeyed structure built in red sandstone with a free use of marble. It is believed that the palace was built to be used by the Royals on their visits to the Dargah Qutb Sahib. The place is almost unknown to tourists and even locals.

Yes Tq it will be my pleasure to take you around some of these places when you visit Delhi.

After years of persuation by history & monument lovers Delhi branch of ASI has finally recognised the grandeur of Safderjung’s tomb. This one is a unique monument of the Mughal times. While all the prominent Mughal era monuments are built on a strictly ordered theme this one is a classic example of order in disorder. In the first glance the basic architecture, the interplay of marble and red stone appear chaotic but as you get closure and look around and above a definite order and plan become visible and almost at once you are struck by the beauty of the structure.
Now this monument has been wonderfully illuminated and looks awesome in the evening. Cool lights like LED’s have been used which does not increase Carbon count and do not have adverse effect on the old paints. It is highly recommended for tourists visiting Delhi.
Thirteen more monuments will be illuminated in a phased manner and will be completed before the Common Wealth Games in 20010.

A project for a dreary winter weekend: creating a Google maps with all of them marked (not that I don't already have enough projects like that in the pipe-line).
