Among all the films I watched at the Osian Film Festival I really liked these:

Gulabi Talkies by Girish Kasaravalli which got the best Indian film award.
Chalo Let's Go by Anjan Dutta
Sparrow by Johnny To
The Terrorizers by Edward Yang
Loneliness by Hojat Ghasemzadeh Asl
Flight of the Red Balloon by Hou Hsiao-hsien
Band's Visit by Saleh Bakri Best feature award.

Flight of the Red Balloon by Hou Hsiao-hsien

Was this movie an adaptation of Le Ballon Rouge, an academy award winning movie (1956) filmed in Paris? This movie had no dialogue from beginning to end - a wonderful artistic movie, for all ages.

Priya, I haven't seen Le Ballon Rouge that you mention. The one I saw is also shot in Paris. It is about a mother & her very young daughter and a Jap student who takes care of the daughter when the mother goes to work. This Jap student she was studying film making and carried a digicam with her always.

I think the recent Red Balloon film was intended to be a sequel of sorts to the earlier one. I think it was comissioned by the Musee D'Orsay. The recent film will play here in a couple of weeks. We missed "The Band's Visit" when it was here; it seems like a very good movie.

So nice to see you here after a long gap somerset.
Yes you must try to watch the Band's Visit, a wonderful film.
I would also highly recommend Loneliness by Hojat Ghasemzadeh Asl

For the last couple of years I find Iran producing fabulous films. Rabaan by Majid Majidi is one of them. I would venture to say that now the best festival entries are coming from Iran.

Yashodhara listening????

Thank you; I've been silently here, enjoying your updates on films and S. Ray. The only films I've had time to watch in several months have been part of Apocalypse Now Redux and my favorite Bollywood Film, Amar Akbar Anthony.

I hope Yashodhara is listening and will rejoin the conversation soon!

Co-incidentally, San Francisco's Asian American Film Festival begins today: here's their website: http://festival.asia...ricanmedia.org/

We also have a South Asian Film Festival here in November: http://www.thirdi.org/festival/
