Unlike most of the free online books mentioned in this section, this one isn't about the more spiritual aspects of India, but it is free to read online, so I guess it qualifies. It was released in South India in 2003 but is no longer in print, and as there are no immediate plans for a reprint, it has been placed on line. It's basically a series of short travel tales... best to click and see for yourself:

Apparently he has a new book coming out in 2008, also.

Tell me about it!! It's been 'delayed' (indefinitely, but never say never)

Mr Sherrydog or can I call you Colin?

Would you per chance be self promoting yourself here as clearly you seem to be the same person as the writer of the book you rave about, apparent from the fact that you have called yourself Colin in a message to a member here and that your profile picture looks very much like the guy in the newspaper articles.

Explanation please!
Smoked for 25 years but now not smoked since 13th Jan. Am I now a non smoker, a smoker who doesn't smoke or an ex smoker? Do I have to even have a title, can I not just be a 'me'? Has not smoking made me crazy?, probably!

Hi, I'm not setting out to mislead. It's not meant to be a secret that I wrote the book. It is free to read online, and its been there for quite some time. So I placed it under the online book thread. Maybe some people might want to read it, or perhaps they won't. By the way Mr Malkers, you say I "rave" about my book. I do no such thing! I merely say it is free to read online, it is a series of short travel tales... and say that people can see for themselves. The fact I call myself Sherrydog on this forum is neither here nor there. Anyone who checks out my member profile and clicks on my website link can see my identity. I've not been a member here for long, but I like to think that I'm also contibuting to the forum in others ways (hotel reviews, etc). Please also refer to post number 7 below.

The whole tone of your response is accusatory (and unnecessary).

hi sherrydog, welcome to the tree.

as you rightly point out, your username is neither here nor there, but as many of us frequent the same forums we wondered if you were the same person ColinT who posts under his own name in another travel forum.

we look forward to you your contributions.
just is.

Hi, 'iwanttogoback', an 'old' face!

The previous comment by Malkers, to me at least, implies that I am in some way being underhanded or setting out to mislead and that I am merely self promoting. I may be promoting a book that I wrote (making no money because it's free), but it fits the criteria for inclusion here, and I like to think its a two way street anyhow: members may place their blogs or their photos or their various links on this site and they can also offer advice, information to others, etc. By the way, ColinT was substituted by my current username as a tribute to some "one" (animal). There was nothing more in it than that.

Anyway, thanks for the welcome. I'm suddenly feeling much more positive about this forum.

I have no problem with you, I realise it is a free book.  Just don't understand why you didn't come right out and say that in your first post on this thread or indeed in your second post where you still refer to the author as the third person!

You have to admit it looks rather odd! No?

My response to dzibead was tongue in cheek, that's why I referred to myself as such and said "tell me about it, etc". I thought he knew it was me (even if he didn't, it was obvious to anyone who looked at my profile that it was me, given the access provided to my blog, the book and other website). I don't necessarily think it looked odd. I just wanted to be subtle and not come on here blowing my own trumpet in a crude and overtly obvious manner, but I never intended to mislead or disguise the fact it was me, the author. Seems it had the opposite effect. Anyhow, you have my private mail and I hope you will oblige. Enough as far as I'm concerned.

By the way, thanks John sw, greatly appreciated.

I think it was "Blessed are the cheesemakers".

Well, obviously, this is not meant to be taken literally. It refers to any manufacturers of dairy products.

Hope it's OK to put this here. In case anyone is interested, the follow up to Chasing Rainbows is about to be released in early July. Just a bit of fun - there is currently a competition to win free copies over at:

Just in case anyone is interested, a rare copy of Rainbows has appeared on the US ebay site, put there by IT member Lou Wilson. It is directly here - Ebay.

I thought this may be worth pointing out, given that it is out of print and although second hand copies used to appear on Amazon, they haven't appeared for a very long time.
