With the excavation work completing soon the historic site of Siri will be open to public by 2009. So far the ruins of this capital remained unseen. ASI has done a marvelous job and I am sure this will draw a lot of visitors.

Here's some more information about Siri.  The first link has a lot of photos (but taken before the recent excavations, I think).  I read that the name "Siri" comes from the word for "head" because the heads of 8000 Mongol soldiers were buried in the city's walls.  ???  I haven't really explored the area around Hauz Khas - it's on my list for my next visit (for the shopping too!)

Actually the whole National Capital Region is worth excavating. If you walk from south Hauz Khas to Qutab Minar you will travel through grounds littered with historical remains. Choose any spot in random & dig no more than 10 ft. You will see things left behind by people centuries ago.
I was quite disappointed when the Hauz Khash village thing came up. Village indeed !!! The rich dames of Delhi are the villagers and their boutiques are the huts.
