Lord Shiva is also known as God of the Gods and also as Soayanvu he who is born of himself. Another name is Neelkanth. Legend has it that when the great occeans were churnned, first came the deadly poison which Lord Shiva offered to absorb and his throat turned blue, hence the name. Neel=Blue, Kantha= Throat. The drops of the nectar that fell on the ground made cannabis grow.

I had a taste of India yesterday. Woke up at 4.30am & meditated for 1 hour then took bath followed by milk & fruit for breakfast. At lunch time paid a visit to the local Shiva Temple where the Temple Pujari let me take part in the Puja, pouring milk & water over Shivalinga & offering fruit etc, received blessing from Pujari & was given more fruit as Prasad, which i then had for lunch. In the evening returned to the Temple for Bhajans, then took part in further offerings where everyone had a Tali tray with various fruits, nuts, flowers, milk etc & i was provided with a small brass yonilinga with cobra & trisul to make offerings to, then more fruit as Prasad for late dinner..........woke up this morning feeling verrreeeee sattvic!! more Fruit Prasad for breakfast.

Om Hari Hari Hari Mahadeva!   :D KK

So Shaivites had their biggest day!

I had boiled potato and some more potato in other forms! My diabetes probably worsened.

Now I am waiting on some Vaishnav festivals like Ramnavami and Janmashtmi! In my family both Shaivism and Vaishnavism religions are equally followed (or nonfollowed).

!NFL bhai we have a tradition in the south, amongst Non-Veg eaters, called Kari Panduga - leftover festival, the day after after every major festival, other than Diwali (Sankrantri, Ugadi, Dusserah...), where meat is prominent.

KK, same ritual as last year?

We had a fairly good turn out at the community centre last evening, considering all the restrictions. Deliciously sweet supari and bananas for Prasad, which were very welcome.
