hey guys!

so im flying to kolkata on the 22nd ( this friday ) from chennai. im flying with air Deccan, and I booked my ticket about 3 weeks ago. I just printed my E-ticket then, with unique ticket code to redeem at the airport, when I noticed it requests that all international credit card online purchases ( me! ) require the card holder to be one of the passengers, and it needs to be shown at the check in desk to receive a boarding pass?! my ticket was booked with a friends card, who is now in the Andaman islands, and uncontactable until the 25th, when we are supposed to be meet up in Darjeeling. am I just being paranoid and this rule is rarely seen to? it seems to defy logic, the whole point of online is booking is removed with this law...im very worried. going to contact air Deccan tomorrow ( Monday ) but thought id check here just in case someone had some quick advice

Max

I don't know an answer for you Harwood unfortunately but a photocopy of the card with friend's signature might have served the purpose, but too late now for you to get that by the sounds of it. I hope someone else can help - let us know what Air Deccan has to say and I hope all goes well for you.

With many e-ticket purchases (not just for airline tickets, but others as well), the card used to book the ticket must be shown before the goods are delivered.

I've bought e-tickets for domestic flights in the U.S. and in order to obtain the boarding pass at a self-service kiosk at the airport, I was required to insert into the machine the same credit card that was used to purchase the ticket.  I've also bought event/concert tickets on-line and have had to show the same credit card when I was picking up tickets at "will call" (this was not an issue when I paid for the tickets on-line and the actual tickets were sent to me, but that doesn't happen with an airline e-ticket.)  I suspect the rules are pretty strictly enforced with airline travel, in light of other security considerations.  I suggest you contact the airline immediately to discuss this.

Harwood: since I'm an Indian and I get it through a travel agent, I haven't gone through this but if you have a e-ticket print-our and a boarding pass print -out no one is goin to stop you. firstly the guys at the gate would ask you about your e-ticket print out and out Id which you have. the problem can only occur at the checkin point, tell them that you've used your friend's credit card and you've all the identification proof for you to travel and show them. the last resort is to make them speak to the credit card owner, which I assume you can.
from my side, no problems, go ahead confidently.

Hi
We flew air Deccan from Delhi to srinagar and back. in Delhi took only e- ticket  in Srinagar wanted to check credit card also to make sure we are the holders of the card
So sure makes things confused and sorry that there might be a problem with not having booked with your own credit card
Do hope will be O.K.

I had an e-ticket for flights Delhi - Jodhpur booked by an agent here and they didn't ask for the credit card! Maybe there's some code on it to say an agent booked it. Booking international flights by myself previously, I've never been asked for the credit card.  I think you could be o.k.

I'll just add to the confusion by saying I've never had my credit card checked against by booking details, whilst checking in. However this experience is confined to a few European airports and about 15 e tickets only.

The rules are for security of course but also seem to be another measly step by credit card companies to make it ever harder to book online.
The idea of a universal mode of payment seems to shrinking at the very time connectivity is mushrooming.
Weird, there's a tree member or three who works in this kind of thing, why are we being subjected to evermore stringent rules on using a credit card? The bit of plastic a civilization is built on  :D

However I would go with Vinayverma on this one, you've committed no fraud or deception, you have bona fide travel documents and are holding up your hands in honesty, by saying "look the credit card was my friend's" we booked in good faith but made a small blunder.
Perhaps your friend can ask the credit card company to accept the transaction ahead of your schedule, that would certainly help if you had proof of that!!

Having seen what the responses have been from Deccan, it would seem you can only chance your arm, or book again.
Try asking Deccan if acceptance of purchase from the credit card company will suffice??
Of course if you get the robotons that sometimes run these help desks.........Then it will be , "the rules clearly state"

Good luck.

I bought an e-ticket for Kullukid using my credit card. He had no problem.
