Delhi is very well connected to all other cities in India by rail. There are four railway stations in Delhi. These are Delhi Main which is also called Old Delhi, New Delhi, Hazarat Nizamuddin & Sarai Rohilla. Very few trains like Chetak Express to Udaipur leave from Sarai Rohilla. The metro touches both Delhi Main & New Delhi. There are suberban trains connecting New Delhi & Hazarat Nizamuddin but these can become very crowded during peak hours. The approach to Delhi Main station can get very congested & traffic jams are common so take care. The New Delhi station has two entrances. One from Pahargunge side & the other from Ajmere Gate. Pahargunge side is very crowded & parking is difficult.
Plenty of buses are avilable for travel to neighbouring states. Now Volvo buses are running to selected places like Manali. There are now three important bus stations & they are called ISBT's. They are at Kashmere Gate, Sarai Kale Khan & Anand Vihar. Rajasthan state transport runs Deluxe, Ac & Volvo buses to various cities. Buses leave from Bikaner House at India Gate, bookings are also done here. The office of Rajasthan tourism is situated here too. Advance reservation is recommended specially for the Volvo services. There is a metro station at Kasmere Gate. You can take a metro from Kashmere Gate to CP. If u intend to go to Pahargunge then get down at New Delhi.
Delhi is well connected by air to other Indian cities as well as the world. The domestic terminal has two departure halls. One used exclusively by Indian & Kingfisher. The other is used by all the other private full service as well as budget airlines. This terminal these days have become almost as crowded as a railway station. A lot of work is going on the road towards international terminal so traffic may become slow. Start early. Metro will shortly touch Delhi airport. After arrival go to the Delhi police/Govt. run prepaid booth only. There are private operators but they charge much more.
Happy travelling.

Good info. I've just saved the Delhi Metro website to my "favorites". Can't wait to try it on my next trip!

I'm passing through Delhi next week. Will be staying at a friend's in NOIDA. I need to catch a 5.00 a.m. flight to Bombay.
Can I take the Metro from, err.. some point to... err... some point? (I'm thinking Mayur vihar Phase-I to Dwarka)
Or am I better off simply catching a cab at that ungodly hour?
Advise please.

Sorry Soulcurry I am afraid you will have to depend on a cab. Both the Govt.s of Delhi & UP are discussing plying of autos and taxis from Delhi to Noida & Ghaziabad but so far nothing has transpired. So you will have to leave your friend's place around 3 AM and probably travel by a private cab. Could you not have chosen a later flight? I would have left the night before unless a function or a party at my friend's place compelled me to stay back. Since Mumbai is your home ground you could perhaps have taken a late night flight.
Good luck & have a safe & pleasant flight back home.

Hi,
I think the Delhi Metro start running from 0600 hrs, so you must rely on Private cab only.
The information from official Delhi Metro Rail Website:
