The entire area around the tomb of Jamali-Kamali, Qutab minar, Lal Kot and Mehrauli which is full of historical structures were kept neglected by our ASI. Such a historical place dotted with the remains of history spanning more than 600 years was being destroyed by encroachments.
Finally ASI has taken note of it after many prominent historians took up the matter. Faintly visible structures covered by overgrowth have now been brought to surface. Diggings have uncovered a miniature Tughlakabad between the tomb of the Sufi saints Jamali & Kamali and the tomb of Ghiyas-ud-din Balban. He had come as a slave but gradually rose to rule the dynasty. His tomb is the first major tomb having the classical Islamist “true arch”
Now this area will be open to visitors.
I wish more excavation work takes place near Lal Kot. So little is known about the early Hindu period.
