So the conversation was on pickpockets and I said I keep it in my trouser's front pocket after getting picked once during college days.

My colleague, she says, if it's a purse, she's happily keep it inside her blouse(jammed against her bra, I think).   Which is slightly weird.

I only knew street hawker women used to do that with their drawstring cloth purses.  Do any of you actually do that?

Methinks, it'd scare the bejezus out of the shopkeeper if a women dived into her blouse to get her purse.

well, ladies in my house used to do it all the time till few years back. How the purses have increased in size so they do not do it, earlier it was a very small purse only with currency notes and small change.

My Grand-mom (both of them, maternal and Paternal), my mother, aunts all used to do it. Some ladies still do it.  :)

Sometimes it depends on what one has to put into the bra besides a money purse. :)

A friend who travels to Europe often told me that she wears a "sports bra" and keeps her money and passport within it while travelling. (Here are photos of sports bras, in case you do not see these in India: http://images.google...&...s bra&gbv=2 ). I am not as "bosom-y" as she is, so I had to find a different way ...

I usually have pockets put in my salwar kameez, and I sew Velcro "dots" to these, to keep the pockets closed. My "walking around money,"  in a small cloth purse, goes in the pockets.

When I wore sarees, I had a couple of pockets sewn into my petticoats: one in the side seam, and another at the waist, under the drawstring. I used to ride 3rd class trains in those days, and these pockets meant I didn't have to be too worried about my passport and cash.

my aunt, who travellled a lot through south-east asia, referred to her bra as her top pocket. :)

i'm quite happy with a money belt, and some walking round money in my pocket. i've slept quite comfortably with the money belt on on trains.
just is.
