The six parts are — Origins and Identity, The Power of Ideas, the Growth of CiviliSation, Age of Gold and Iron, the Great Moguls, and Freedom. Each episode spans vast periods, and gives us a wide perspective of our history. “India became a free nation only 60 years ago, but in a real sense it has existed for thousands of years”, writes Wood in the book which accompanies the series, published by the BBC.

This series began on PBS in the US last night. The first two episodes were very, very good.

The photography is great but Michael Woods sort of gets on my nerves.

I saw most of this series on the Discover channel while I was in India; it was very well done and interesting! I'll catch up with the pieces I missed when Netflix gets it!

actually, i think it's on abc, not sbs. but i'm fairly certain it's 7.30 sunday, the same time as 'rogue nation' was. did you watch that? i really enjoyed it, but i wish it had continued the story (it was about the first 30 of 40 years of settlement in sydney).
just is.

It's a pretty good series, but Wood does get a bit irritating by the end.
His series 'In Search of Myths and Heroes' is much better, especially the episode on the search for Shangri-La.

I loved the whole series. I also admired Wood's enthusiasm and apparent affection and interest in all things Indian - historical and otherwise.

IMHO Part 1 was the best episode, although i did enjoy all episodes. I love the way he jumped about from one end of the subcontinent to the other. KK
