At last a bright idea has evolved to mitigate the sufferings of the travelers who are fleeced by unscrupulous elements in the railways. We all know that the final reservation charts of long distance trains are prepared four hours before commencement of the journey. During the preparation of his chart, all those who are in the waiting list or in the RAC category are allotted confirmed accommodation in the berths that are vacant due to non availability of the people of the reserved quotas of railways or political parties or the police or defense personnel. Until now, those in the wait list got the benefit and, berths that still continued to be vacant were allotted en-route at the discretion of the TTEs. Such a system led to malpractices. The Western Railways have modified the reservation software and now, last minute passengers would get reservations subject to availability even fifteen minutes before departure of the train. This modified system should now be extended to all other railways so that corruption is arrested.
