I came across this today whilst browsing the web, the photo archive of the British Empire Museum, Bristol!
Without going into all the political ramifications of this period of India's history I thought it was an interesting look at a bygone age!!

I see the link times out, no matter just type India, in the on site search box and you will get the full archive listing for India. There are also some films from the time as well!!

Good link, what surprised me is all the chiefs in neeighboring states like Burma used to come to India for coronation Durbar!

completely off topic, what kind of camera do you use hyderabadi? the detail and clarity in that photo are superb.

I have a Canon 300D, and an assortment of lenses. So the camera body itself plays a relatively minor role. This one was shot with a 18 - 200mm lens @ 60mm, about (slightly zoomed) what the human eye sees. At full 200mm this is what you get, in a bylane of the above street:
