Sai Baba’s moon miracle fails
Friday, 05 October , 2007, 00:05
Puttaparthi: Thousands of people gathered at the airport here on Thursday night after word spread that controversial godman Satya Sai Baba would be "sighted" on the moon - but returned disappointed when the "miracle" did not happen.
The 81-year-old Sai Baba was also present at the airport and later returned to his 'Prshanti Nilayam' ashram here in Anantapur district.
It all started when an official of the Sai Trust announced that the godman would make a "moon appearance" 6-7 pm and asked devotees to proceed towards the airport.
Thousands of the Baba's devotees from neighbouring villages rushed to the airport but were disappointed as a cloud cover hid the moon. They waited for an hour before dispersing.
Police had a tough time in clearing the traffic on the airport road to enable the Baba to return to his abode amid tight security. There was no word from Sai Trust as to why the ‘miracle’ failed to materialise.
His devotees believed that the clouds played spoilsport while rationalists termed it an attempt by the Sai Trust to revive the Baba's waning popularity.

Apparently my home state has a liking for these types:
Sleaze hits the eye in swami’s lair
HYDERABAD: Nityananda Swamy – the ever-blissful – makes for an amusing caricature of the fake.
A peep into one of the rooms in his rented house at Gayatrinagar in Borabanda bares his dark side, even if only by a shade.
Several boxes of Suhagra 50 (sounds like viagra) are neatly piled on a table. For the ignorant, the pill enhances a man’s libido and is meant particularly for those above 50.
“Suhagra-50 is used by those who suffer from erectile dysfunction. They consume the pill an hour before intercourse,” Dr K Srinivasan of the Vijaya Health Care says.
Pictures of different gods greet us at the entrance of the house, which by the way, belongs to one Dr B Ramacharyulu. A room in the middle of this independent residence has all the paraphernalia essential for homams and pujas.
Of incidental interest is a photograph of the Swamy with a BJP leader. Back in the Suhagra room, high end desktop printers, which the man perhaps used to churn out fake currency, are placed not with exactly the same care as the pills.

Hunt on for Nityananda Swamy
HYDERABAD: A day after recovering counterfeit currency from the house of self-styled godman Nityananda Swamy alias Tripuranandanatha Swamy, the Cyberabad police launched a hunt for him on Wednesday suspecting his involvement in other crimes.
“We suspect he is involved in criminal activities apart from counterfeit currency racket,” the Cyberabad DCP (Crimes) E. Damoder told reporters here. Suspicions about the Swamy’s alleged criminal activities arose following confession of a gang of thieves that it stole counterfeit currency notes - all of Rs. 1,000 denomination - and tiger’s claws from the Swamy’s house at Borabanda. I thought it was deemed a success. A devotee showed me a photograph of the moon taken that night, and it sure looked like Swami...had Photoshop.
