Hi everyone,

I was told that I will need a special permit in order to photograph with a tripod, at various placed of cultural/historical value in India (for example The Taj Mahal).

I'm finding it hard to find a definitive online resource which would confirm this and provide information on how to obtain the permits.

Has anyone here gone through this procedure? Where do I need to apply? How long does it take to obtain the permits?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

I've never noticed a special fee  for a  tripod but there's pretty much always a fee for a camera. Perhaps that's what people meant by this!

No additional fee for using your tripod. As cyberhippie has said in many monuments you will be required to pay for taking photos. You have to pay more if you are using a video camera.

hi ksa

i guess the message is: be prepared for entry fees, and then additional fees (in some places) for cameras, tripods and video cams. the fees are usually payable at entry, so you don't need to worry about having to try and get a permit.
just is.

Many thanks everyone.

I'm hoping what I read there isn't going to be a problem later:

It seems that you do need a permit to use a tripod in certain places.

I have written to the ASI in Delhi to ask what the procedure is to gain a permit and will post again when I have any news.
