Hi,

Looking to travel fom Leh to Rajasthan, probabaly Jaisalmer in June. Flying up to leh from delhi but working my way back down by trains and buses. I am aware that the route out of Leh is either a road to manali or Jammu

I will travel to Manali - firstly anyone know how much this will cost?

Secondly, where is the nearest place on reaching manail for a central train hub to get trains on to Rajasthan?

Any advice on getiing to jaisalmer, where to book, cost for 2nd class slepper etc?

Hello, elijahmo !

I'm afraid I cannot answer the first part of your question regarding cost of travel from Leh to Manali.

Regarding the second part, I suggest you get down to Delhi from Manali by bus - a 16 hour journey; and then take the direct train to Jaisalmer. The  train leaves old Delhi at 17=25 and reaches Jaisalmer at 13=30 the next day. This is the 4059 Delhi-Jaisalmer Express.

You can book for this train over the net rightaway, by logging on to this website and registering yourself. The ticket can be booked and even printed on-line. You will need to have a valid credit card to make the payment. The sleeper class fare is Rs. 326/-.

Elijahmo: Manali to leh will be a two day journey with a break for night at Sarchu most probably. You get to spend the night in tents at sarchu. The cost of a ticket from Manali to Leh is Rs. 1300. Make sure you reach the bus stand early and manage to get a good seat..the back rows are usually not comfortable for this epic journey. Also, always better to get a window seat in case you might want to throw up..

I've done the journey from Manali to Leh two summers ago. We decided to rent a whole Toyota Qualis (or was a Tata Sumo) in order to be more comfortable than in the bus and to allow us stop whenever we want to take pictures, eat/drink, visit the WC or just walk for a couple of minutes.

We got it for 9000 rps. and we were 4 travellers with the driver, the price was for the whole car so you can put more fellows in the car in order to make it cheaper for you, just look around Leh. The price didn't include our tent in Sarchu neither our meals/drinks.

I think I've readed something that doing it the other way (like you) would be a little bit more expensive.

About reaching Rajasthan, I think Shimla has said the best and easy way.…

Sounds good advice guys. rom what you have all said I will probabaly try and hire a good vehicle in Leh then and ahre the cost with some others back down to manil. The break the trip and spnd a couple of days in manli and Shimal working way back to Delhi so its not 3 days constant travelling! cheers guys! cant wait now!
