The festival of Rakshabandhan s celebrated on the full moon in the month of Shravana. In this festival sisters tie Rakhi around the wrists of their brothers. The brothers pledge to help & protect sisters. As usual with Indian festivals lot of festivities take place. Shops display colorful intricate Rakhis. Sweet shops produce special sweets. We will celebrate it on 28th. August. This festival is a very old one dating back to the Vedic times. Inspired by the spirit of this festival Rabindranath Tagore started Rakhi Utsava, a congregation signifying the harmonious relationship amongst the community. It was a vow for peaceful existence and commitment to all the members of society. This was Raksha Bandhan’s universal outlook.
Once Chittor was invaded by Bahadur Sha. After her husband’s death Maharani Karnawati sent a Rakhi to Humayun, the Mughal Emperor of Delhi, and called him for help. Humayun was aware of the significance of Rakhi in the Hindu community so he immediately accepted her request to protect her. Nobody forced him to do so but he did so only out of his respect for the tradition of Rakhi.
Though Humayun marched towards chittor to help the distressed Rani but he could not reach at the right time and the Rani, along with other Rajput ladies committed Jauhar to save their honor.
