[‘Ever thought of taking a SEAT BELT on an Indian bus?? The following blip appeared in today’s Chicago Tribune.]

“Lansky also travels with a seat belt. That's right, a seat belt.”

“"It's like the webbing on the waist strap of a backpack. I bought a few bucks' worth at an outdoor shop and one of those plastic clips to go with it," he says. "On those treacherous overnight bus rides in the middle of nowhere, I slip the belt around the back of my seat and clip in. I've had a few odd glances, but it's pretty discreet. . . . On long overland trips, I'm pretty convinced the bus rides are one of the most dangerous things travelers do."”

[“Duct tape, Tabasco--everyone has 'musts' to pack” By Patrick Joseph | Universal Press Syndicate; August 12, 2007. The article is quoting “travel humorist Doug Lansky ("Last Trout in Venice," "Up the Amazon Without a Paddle")”, and seems to be dependent on “Rolf Potts' excellent Web site, www.rolfpotts.com” where “Potts interviews many of the authors mentioned above about their work and wanderings.”

Many a times in my younger days, I had used rooftop, even if the seats were available, and trust me it could be a better alternative.

he should probably check to see if the seat is even bolted to the floor before relying on his personal seat belt. For all I know, in the event of the crash, the seat would go flying with him attached to it.
