The BBC are doing a series of travel programs and documentaries to celebrate 60 years of independence for both India and Pakistan.
Tonights helping, is India through the eyes of Sanjeev Bhaskar (of Goodness Gracious Me fame) where he takes us to Amritsar, a local wedding and the family home across the border in Pakistan.

I've been watching some of these programmes already. There was a great documentary about life beside the Mumbai rail-lines the other night, and last night I watched a good one about the source of the Ganges.
Hopefully the BBC will keep up the good work........

We've been watching nearly all of these and thoroughly enjoying them. The BBC link, also gives you access to some archive material, which the Beeb has made available for all.

Just watched part two of Sanjeev Bhaskar's journey in India and on to his parents home village in Pakistani Punjab and i thought it as wonderful.. He was the first person in his Family to go to Pakistan in Sixty years.. The BBC has truly surpassed it's self with this collection of programs, about time our money spent on something interesting......
Travel lightly......

Sanjeev Bhaskar's one this evening was very good.
Got a few tingles of excitement when I saw the Golden Temple in Amritsar - I'll be there in a few days time.

I watched the one about Culture in Calcutta. It was a bit superficial, but was a great chance to see footage of my beloved Cal
And I agree with Ray, the Beeb has surpassed itself with all these wonderful programmes, I think.

I only watched a few minutes of the Calcutta one - the presenter irritated the hell out of me.

The series on the Ganges is just about the best thing that's been on TV this year.

Well, even if we 'outsiders' can't watch, BBC Food has a tribute to Indian cookery on this month, so we'll have something of India to whet our appetites
'Their people will judge them on what they can build and not what they destroy.

I think John will be particularly interested in the following archive film from the Beeb.
First shown in 1973, Man Alive: Indian Summer is all about Oooty.
www.bbc.co.uk/archive/trial/open/aip/3642
Or 'Snooty Ooty' as my grandmother used to call it!
