I'm an American, not of Indian origin (if that matters..) my husband is an Indian citizen and recently sold a house in India. Now we'd like to transfer about 2lakhs from an Indian citibank account to an account I hold in the US - is this possible? Kind of urgent.

The only way I have transferred rupees from my Indian bank account to the UK is by withdrawing it from an ATM.
Western Union allows you to send money to India, but not FROM India.
The Reserve Bank of India has all sorts of rules to prevent rupees from leaving the country. Maybe there is a way of doing it, but not that I'm aware of!
