Last weekend we looked at different backpacks and found the Tatonka The Great Escape 60 http://intranet.tato...tinfo1.dll?1140 quite suitable. Having read several threads on bag sizes I am still unsure though, many people seem to travel much lighter than that. I was thinking that it might be better to have a bigger bag and not stuff it completely rather than filling a smaller one up to its capacity. We want to pack as little as possible and leave some space for souvenirs and other things to be bought in India. Could you please take a look at the link and tell me what you think of this particular backpack, do you have experiences with Tatonka backpacks? Any advice appreciated.
A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your own version in return.

I have an 80 litre backpack but I go for a lot longer than 3 weeks.
Also, as I'm there for long periods, I need more clothes: shorts / T-Shirts for warm weather (Goa) and fleeces / jumpers / jeans for higher altitudes (Ladakh). This shouldn't be a problem for you.
60 litres should be fine for a short trip - if you travel fairly lightly (just a few changes of clothes rather than the entire wardrobes that some bring with them) you should still have room for a few souvenirs.
It depends on how many clothes you need, though. I like to think I travel lightly but I still take things I never use. I've been doing this for two years now - you'd've thought I would've learned by now.
