I saw a rickshaw in Amsterdam. Not one but a few!!! On the Damrak square near the famous or infamous Red lights district.

I think its either a promotional campaign or a college guys way to tuition fees.

Just as I was writing this it occured to me that I have seen a rickshaw in Japan too!! In the Chinatown in Yokohama. And it was the hand pulled type not the peddle with legs type.

So, rickshaws in Delhi, Japan and Amsterdam ... gosh, if there is a relation with rickshaws and where I live... does Toronto (tdot) have a rickshaw?

:P

I have ridden rickshaws in Kathmandu(had to get off and help push up the hills around Swayambhu once, couldn't find a taxi in Thamel that afternoon) and Chengdu(China) - we also have them in NYC. I don't remember seeing them in Toronto when I was there in '04, but it was early May and still freezing.

saw a show a few nights ago (I think it was on aaj tak?!) about those rickshaws hitting NYC.  They had interviewed a lady driver, and when asked why a rickshaw in NYC - she responded that it was the best way to get around town - not rushed, and you would get to see places you wouldn't normally see on a typical tour.  Prices are NYC too - $$$ compared to the local Indian rickshaws!

I have never ridden one here in NYC -have seen them mostly around Central Park. I'm curious whether they are cheaper or more expensive than a taxi for a given distance. The ones in Kat are cheap - unless you are going up a hill...

Thanks for the info folks.
Those ricks are more comfy and spacious than the Indian ones and generally the puller in India is a skinny old man trying to scratch a living some how. The pullers here looked well fed to me.
