Hello all,
I would suggest all of the people who take photographs so lovingly file them under some creative commons license.

http://creativecommons.org/license/ . Its needed as quite a few sites & forums use your work & then are copyrighted by them without putting any effort. The FAQ is off-line atm so using google search http://www.google.co...lient=firefox-a

There are many a forum & site which give a freehand to the brand themselves but not the creators of things. For e.g. Google Video Terms & conditions :-

http://video.google....py?answer=31704

Similarly is the case with few forums. Interestingly, there are quite a few forums like yours which have pretty decent forums rules http://www.gourmetin...?act=boardrules which should be celebrated ;) In case if you guys have any questions about creative commons, feel free to post here, although these guys also have a mailing list info@creativecommons.org

Another thing, its part of a broader cultural issue of free education like wikipedia and MIT courseware :-

http://sciencecommons.org/
http://ocw.mit.edu/
http://www.free-cult...freeculture.pdf
http://www.debian.org (GNU/Linux distribution)

http://creative.linux-delhi.org/
http://www.cc-India.org/

Comments, suggstions, questions are all welcome.

Disclaimer :- I am not affliated with any of the groups/sites at the moment but will be joining them. Use creative commons extensively in all my work.

Cheers

Right. Forgive my simple question, but when I post my photo, What do I write in copyright tag? Creative Commons License?

Because the license I want to use have long text:

This work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 License. To view a copy of this license, visit http://creativecommo...s/by-nc-nd/3.0/ or send a letter to Creative Commons, 171 Second Street, Suite 300, San Francisco, California, 94105, USA.

but aren't all the photos here marked as copyright of the author who, i believe, is the person who uploads them?

can someone explain to me the pros and cons of a creative commons system?

You don't need to use the long text you can simply use

This work is under http://creativecommo...s/by-nc-nd/3.0/ which is good enough.

I have no idea but its safer to do that. Of course like every other system it has its share of pitfalls also.
http://en.wikipedia....reative_Commons does give an idea of the pros & cons and also related articles.
I don't profess to be an expert in copyright law but for me this seems to be a good way to atleast defend my work.
