hi there!
I am planning to travel to India with my boyfriend this summer. We are almost out of money and dont care if the way to get there takes quite long.
does anybody have suggestions about the cheapest way to get there? except to walk- we considered that one but decided against it :P Maybe a cheap airline or a busline or railway? even a websites about people who get there by car and fancy to give lifts would do.
thanx

hi esther and welcome to the tree.

i'm from oz, so i can't help you with this particular query, but i'm sure someone will be along soon. there are a number of threads on cheap flights, if you search using the search function, or just look in the airline section there should be something there.

any ideas what you're going to do in india yet?
just is.

Flying is almost certainly your best option.

India overland is really out of the question with the troubles and wars in countries that you would have to pass through.

To find a real bargain flight you have to work hard at it!  The cheapest I ever found was an economy return from Rome to Mumbai via Zurich on Swiss.  It cost EUR340 including all taxes.

Search the web sites in your country, and also consider taking a cheap flight to another European country and flying from there.

You'll find some good links UK to India here:

It's not out of the question to travel overland John there's plenty still doing the old hippy route with little or nothing to report. Even Afgahistan is on the map again for those roughy toughy wanderers!!

However if it's cheap the OP looking for, I'm pretty sure flying is still the best option, travel, accomodation and visas soon rack up trip expenditure doing it overland. Far cheaper to just get a cheap flight to India, where at least life can be very cheap.

I think we need a little more information -

Which part of India are you planning as your entry point?

Which European country are you travelling from?

Also when do you want to leave Europe and get back?

Esther, if you are "almost out of money," how will you live in India. It's cheap, but it's not free.

Hello Backpackers..!!!

Here the information provided by "John.Sw" seems to me the best among the others .....He is right that Air travel is the best way to reach here....Recently I also visited India and also found that dis is the best way to come India...You can also reach by sea,but costs you more....

With Regards,
Tom Ruderr.

There are many non-stop routes from European countries to Indian. What do you mean by cheap? I travelled with BA DUB-LHR-BOM come back for about 650 dollar come back in 2008. You could try BA, Air Indian and Jet Air passage. Presumably Lufthansa and perhaps Air This particular language and KLM have non-stop from FRA, CDG and AMS respectively. Also try routes via the West with Emirates, Ethihad etc.
