The 7th day of April has been identified as the World Health Day to focus attention on the importance of maintaining good health. Modernization has robbed us of those tiny things that have ceased to have any relevance to the present day highflying executives and their highly strung families – every one wants to be labeled an achiever and, to reach his goal, he disregards the most important part of his existence – namely, possessing a good health that in itself prevents hundreds of problems.
In days of yore, families would flee to nature and seek comfort in the arms of Nature. They would spend the weekends appreciating all the gifts that Nature provides and that come for free. The humming of bees, the flitting butterflies, the chirping of birds, the rippling waters of rivers, the rustle in the leaves as the air blows through them, the birds hopping from branch to branch – the very sight of these magic potions revive the lost energy and prepare you for the more trying times for the next week. And, the beautiful flowers that blossom in the countryside, in nooks and corners of parks prove that these can relieve tension like no known medicine can.
It is said that health is wealth – unfortunately, today wealth brings with it illnesses that deny its owner the charms of living life to the full. The very definition of wealth has undergone transformation – in the past, there used to be the wise saying ‘cut your coat according to the cloth’ – or, in plain simple words, live within your means. Such logic is outdated – today, you are encouraged to go for whatever takes your fancy, there are financiers who will pick up your bill and you can repay over a period of time. This leads to deteriorating health because, to meet the commitments of repayments, you have to exert yourself to the limits. The results are visits to the doctors.
On the occasion of World Health day, we should resolve to learn from our past mistakes and experiences and not reach for the moon – we must love to appreciate the good things of life and refrain from putting ourselves in situations that creates strain. This can be achieved if all the members of the family are tuned to the same frequency.
