Hi,

Should I buy a mosquito net before I leave, or is it easy to get one in India. I am arriving in Mumbai on Monday.

Dave
Just arrived in India, read all about it in my blog: http://www.travelblo...gers/SuperDave/

Hi Dave

If you know where to get one at home then I would get one there as they aren't something that you see everywhere for sale here although you will find them if you look hard enough.

It all depends where you are going as to whether you need one too, I've never used one in India and still to this date have not stayed anywhere thats offered them in the room.  The one time I did use one was in Sri Lanka and one single mossie got trapped inside it and ate me all night!  ;)

Cheers

Smoked for 25 years but now not smoked since 13th Jan. Am I now a non smoker, a smoker who doesn't smoke or an ex smoker? Do I have to even have a title, can I not just be a 'me'? Has not smoking made me crazy?, probably!

Likewise, I've never owned a net, Actually in my 'hippie days' or daze it would have been laughed at,,,,,,,,,,,,,

More recently my wife & I stayed in a hut in Goa were one was supplied, which we used but could of done without.

I have tried everything but nothing is better than a net.... like nothing is better for migraine as guillotine....

I have been looking at nets on the net for awhile, but can't figure out which type(style), square or round?
They all look like they will take up a lot of room in my suitcase.
Should I not get one either???    I will be in Dharamshala during June, July and Aug.??

If your going to buy a net it's probably better to buy it at home, the lightweight travel nets are hard to track down in India though not impossible I guess, all in all easier to get before you go!

Try to buy an umbrella type affair with the single fix point, There's a small umbrella at the top which opens and spreads the net at the pot and the net itself hangs like a tepee below!!

Hope that helps!

I was thinking of buying a mossie net from here;

http://www.safariqui...ito_Nets_1.html

Mosinet Premier Single Mosquito Net

That one is free standing so no fix points required

Howie I looked at the mossie net.  My question is how do you attach it....is there  hook in the ceiling??
and how much room does it take in the suitcase  and what does it weight???

If you buy it, email me to tell me what you think??  I would still have time to get one.

Thanks

Mosquito nets are ok, but a plug in thing normally does the trick if it's not a huge room and it's mostly airtight.  ANother optin would be just to buy some thin netting when you get there and put it up at the windows to stop the mosi's getting in...  Less constricting....

We've had a few over here but unless you're in a beach shack/cocohut/jungle then I don't think they're worth it....

Hi Larki,

this is the spec of the net I was looking at;

"Mosinet Premier Single Mosquito Net

Packed weight is 750g.
Packed size (in it's own smart blue stuff bag) to a disk of about 47cms diameter, and down to a thickness of approximately 3cms. "

So it is quite a big size! (I don't do cms being an engineer, so its 470mm (18.5ins) dia x 30mm (1.2ins) thick and it is quite heavy but the advantage is that no fixing points are required!
