So I went to India last summer and things went generally well. However there were days I was very lonely and homesick and I was never more happy to be back in the good ol' U. S. of A. Not to mention I became sick when I returned home and was out of commission for about ten days.
I did see a lot; I thought it would be enough to satiate my desire to travel to India for a long time to come.
Well, guess what? Summer's rapidly approaching, and I am on the brink of buying a ticket to go back. I don't know why I've been fixated on India and feel compelled to return. I have several pictures from India off my Traveljournals page on my desk at school, and students have been asking me about them a lot recently. Each time they ask I remember just how cool the whole experience was.
My memories of India are getting better as time passes. I've been to China and Morrocco as well and have not had such desire to return to those places. I would like to return to Amsterdam, but that's a different story.
Anywho, I'm looking at flying into Delhi and tackling a bit of Rajasthan and maybe north to McCleod Ganj (June 9-30). I know it's hot in some places but I was able to tolerate Varanasi, Delhi, and Agra last summer so I'll manage. I'm also looking to play it more by ear this time as my itinerary was thrown out the window as I started travelling with spontaneous Australians.
So, you'll see me around the boards again soliciting advice and wisdom from the veterans. Feel free to send me any advice or suggestions. I'll be glad to have them.
Thanks,
Brian

Welcome to the tree bjrobe72.
First let me talk about summer in northern India. Places like Jodhpur & Jaisalmer which are star attractions in Rajasthan will be terribly hot in June. Day temperature wil cross 46degC and very dry air laden with sand. So if you are going to Rajasthan in June be well prepared. Use a hat to protect the head from direct sunlight and drink plenty of water. Always drink bottled water from reputed brands like Bisleri. Do not buy locally produced so called mineral water. Drinking contaminated water is the biggest reason for a traveller to fall ill. You can include Mount Abu in your itinerary. The Dilwara temples are fabulous and must not be missed. This place being at an elevated height remains a bit cool in the summer and there is a lake too.
There are lots of places in the Himalayas to explore other than McLeods. You will find information from the posts in Uttaranchal & Himachal forums. You will encounter some rains in the mountains in June.
Wish you all the best.

Spent 2 weeks in the Siliguri/Darjeeling area in February this year ... My first visit to India (Asia for that matter) ... We had sunshine, rain, hail and snow all in the space of a few days ..... and guess what I can't wait to go back.
