I can't get to sleep at night if I don't read for an hour or so, and I sometimes read on trains, or at dinner if I'm eating alone.

The books that go with me are often classics, because I can't read them as fast as the lighter novels that are my usual fare... though I always manage to get a few of those while travelling.

I like books that take place somewhere other than where I am, so in India, I once read SEVEN PILLARS OF WISDOM and AUGUST 1914 (in the same year).

I took a couple of audio books with me last trip and found them handy on trains or to send me to sleep in noisy hotels.

I’ve recently purchased a laptop and have downloaded a small library (8000 or so novels) off Utorrent. Although I would prefer to read a traditional books there are some advantages using an ebook. For one a lappy weighs about the same as six novels and can be read without external light. Very handy for travelling!

I find the Microsoft reader to be a good format for ebooks. The page size is similar to a novel and it allows you to pick text size. And best of all no hands required.

I won’t be carrying books in my pack on future travels and will be scanning relevant travel books before I leave home.

Leith, I tried that, and the only problem with that is you cannot cuddle in your bed with your laptop...

Yes you can! ;) I've done it (watching a DVD in bed, during a power failure). ;)

Are you serious? I read so much while travelling, especially in India - maybe if you travel by yourself you end up reading more. Waiting for trains, buses, planes was a good one, but also in hostel rooms, I used to like sitting on the roof-tops of cafes or hotels in India reading

I like reading ....next week I'll go for just 3 days in a Spa and for sure I'll try to finish my new book (Animal's people, Indra Sinha) .
And normally I read when I'm in holiday...but in India....I just can't! Too many things to do, to look at, talking with people and in the evening I am too tired to read!!
On trains and on buses I love watching out the window to see the real life passing by...At the restaurant I love watching other people and families...
No books for me then!! :P
