Well despite the bad press and slating they get I'm suddenly a big fan of BA.

I had a ticket to Delhi for Monday morning (tomorrow) which was booked as a non refundable and non changeable ticket.  Only worth cancelling to get the taxes back which is just over £100 so worth a phone call.

So I called them up and explained that I cannot travel because my father is very ill and could I possibly reschedule for April sometime (worth asking even though I knew the answer), the lady indeed said it was a non refundable or changeable ticket but also explained that if I can prove that a direct family member has either died or been hospitalised then I can get all my money back except £30 cancellation charge.

So, I just need to get a letter from the hospital on headed paper stating that my dad is in hospital, fax it off and that's it!

They don't tell you this on the website, I wasn't told this earlier this week when I called to enquire about changing it.

I hope this same situation never happens to anyone but a handy piece of advice if it does!

Good ole BA!
Smoked for 25 years but now not smoked since 13th Jan. Am I now a non smoker, a smoker who doesn't smoke or an ex smoker? Do I have to even have a title, can I not just be a 'me'? Has not smoking made me crazy?, probably!

malk

sorry to hear about your dad, but good news about the ticket.

sort of related - if you need to travel due to illness or death of a family member it's worth telling the airline (or whoever you are booking through) as you may well get expedited service and, in some cases, a discounted ticket.

all the best to your dad.
just is.

Spice jet did one better. Rs 600(£ 6.7)  :clapping:  as cancellation charges per passenger per ticket and the rest of the money is with the airline for the next year. This deposit can be used to book flights for any sector..
