NEW DELHI, FEB 15:

In a move aimed at expanding its e-ticketing facilities, Indian Railways signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ICICI Bank on Thursday for selling e-tickets through merchant establishments located in 125 cities across the country.

Commenting on the agreement, railway minister Lalu Prasad said, “The agreement would facilitate the railway policy to provide more and more passenger facilities at people’s door steps.” He added that such passenger-friendly measures would be the focus of the Railway Budget for the coming fiscal as well.

With this service in place, railways hopes to increase e-ticket sales to almost 1 lakh a day. At present, it sells about 25,000 to 30,000 e-tickets everyday.

LOL
Banks and Post Offices (long famous for their "speedy service" and lack of queues) to facilitate the new age of hassle free etickets.
Does anyone else find this deliciously ironic?
OK OK. I know India's changing and there are now some banks and PO's that will actually serve you before your visa expires........But it still made me chuckle.

If it were SBI or any other government bank, then I'd agree, but ICICI is a private bank and there's a world of difference.

I have two bank accounts in India, the SBT (government) is the most useless institution on Earth, but my UTI account is private and far better than any bank I use in Europe.

Believe me, ICICI can hack it.

If you have a few hours to spare, and it's raining, go to a nationalised bank and try to chance some currency - it you're in a hurry, pop into a private bank and you'll be in and out in minutes with your cash - and a better exchange rate!
