The hot topic for discussion last month was the absence of snowfall in the mountains. Now the topic is heavy snowfall in February. Last weekend saw Shimla covered with a thick blanket of snow. A group of families went off to Kufri and got trapped in the snow. Due to heavy snowfall power line had snapped and the hotel's diesel stock ran out after 8 hours. They had to remain shut in their hotel rooms under 3 quilts.
After a gap of ten years it snowed in Darjeeling. I saw a beautiful picture of the toy train tracks covered with snow.
In Delhi we had practically shelved our woolens when it began to pour. And what a downpour!! We don’t have this type of heavy & long spells of rain in monsoon time. Then came the fog. Woolens are back now, an umbrella is in the car. Just watching out for the next act of God of climate who has gone a bit off his/her rocker….

...so do you mean it's raining in this period in North India? Shouldn't it be the driest season in India?
What is the situation in Rajasthan?
Here we are having the warmest and driest winter of the last 300 years, they say...

Rain is unusual at this point of time. In fact now it is raining in South India also. It will not continue long. Kolkata also received heavy downpour for last few days.

...heavy rain now here, just after I wrote "the driest winter of the last 300 years!!"
(but still temperatures much higher than the average!)

It seems to be the same all over. We are supposed to be in the middle of our rainy season and we've hardly had anything, plus above average day-time temperatures.
Water rationing too of 450 litres/day. A very worrying global situation.

Yes, last week has been very freaky in terms for consistent weather, these rains were expected around 15th January, (when they might have done some good to the sapping wheat). Even I had almost packed up my woolens, but last week I have been carrying around an extra jersey in car, just in case! But given the fact even on business meets I have never donned a ‘suit’ there is plenty space under them dowdy tweeds for an extra comforter.
However the rains were welcome and it really took good care of masses that would have been beseeched with parting winter gifts of dry cough, cold and runny noses had the rains decided to skip altogether.

Cyber, I have been in Holland last month, precisely on 18th January, I was in Nordwijk, on the sea... do you remember this date? I do, I couldn't even get out from my car for the wind, it seemed that hundred persons were pushing it against me while I was trying to open!
I saw people going aroung by bicycle, however... simply great!
