We arrive in Mumbai on the 30th of Dec from Aus - 2 adults and a 13 year old, new India travellers! Should we hang around in Mumbai, or should we get out immediately to somewhere quieter - we don't want to plunge right in to wild celebrations as I think my son will need time to adjust (and us too), but if its fairly quiet and we could just have a nice dinner and hang out then it would be good. I'd hate to try and deal with Sydney on NYE if I were new and couldn't speak the language!

Welcome to the tree.
There is a nice place called Ali Baugh near Mumbai. You can spend a night or two there. You have a choice of beach resorts here but I recommend advance booking, at least a month in advance.
good Luck.

Hi kristin,

Welcome to Mumbai

although new years is celebrated in Mumbai  its not very noisy or troublesome in the streets. the road traffic  is always a problem with  a lot more people travelling to party

there are pvt parties, or dance parties in large hotels, Pubs Discos etc have their own parties, most restaurants have decorations and higher prices on their menu.  There are a few public places like the gateway where you a crowd gathering to ring in the year.

So you could choose to party, have a quite dinner or stay in your own room with the telly on and celebrate new years.

Alternatively you could go to ali baug as suggested by jyotida but these resorts will be booked well in advance by the city people looking to escape and party hard. There are other places as well near Mumbai but the situation would be same everywhere.

regards
mani
