I'm pleased to say I've not watched a second of this awful trash and from what I've read, I'm not going to start, either.

36,000 complaints from viewers about this and still it's on our screens. Channel 4 and Endemol have no shame.

Of course it's racist - if she was English, there's absolutely no way they would dare to treat her like that.

No Conor, I don't agree. I think if she were a wealthy, beautiful, successful, well brought-up lady with good manners and white skin, they would treat her in the same despicable way. If she were black/brown, ugly, illiterate, vulgar, lewd and ignorant, they would probably accept her as one of their own. It's classic bullying - they hate her for being better than them and pick on the features that distinguish her. The nasty Ms Goody is half negro herself. Does that make us racist to call her all the names that have been leveled at her in previous posts?

NB. Webswami - I do know a little about Ghandi, and as an English person who's lived long-term in Scotland, I also know a racist comment when one is directed at me.

Anyway, I can't believe this is taking up so much news-time, thankfully there are more interesting things to watch on TV.

I didn’t watch the TV show but when Malkers told me how much he enjoyed the programme (and having heard about the racism controversy on the wireless) I thought I’d have a look.

Unfortunately, the average person in the UK has an IQ of only 100, and to make things worse, the state education system is so pitiable that many British subjects are not even equipped to string two syllables together, never mind a sentence.

What we witnessed was an ignorant, ill bred, ugly, uneducated halfwit trying to express herself, but, not having a very wide vocabulary, resorting to violent outbursts of swearing, accompanied by contortions of the face and gesticulation.

Alexander Chancellor agrees with you: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/st...1994028,00.html

As usual, the Guardian has some spirited comment on this discussion. If interested, also check out Germaine Greer's commentary on this subject somewhere on the Guardian site (Can't find it at the moment). This thing has really attracted some big name attention. Too bad we can't see it here in the US...I guess. We have American Idol to talk about, however.

I'm kind of glad that this whole saga came has been highlighted. What happened in Big Brother is just a reflection of the reality of being a coloured person in the U.K. today. From the school yards, to the work place, racism excists. It amazes me that Goody said that looking back at the clips, (where she is bullying and degrading Shetty), she looks like a person that she would herself hate. Whichever way one looks at it, this kind of behaviour should never be tolerated, it can lead to many problems. I feel that more should be done to stop racism in the U.K. this is but the tip of the ice-burg. I hope this has further opened the eyes of many to how Indians (and minorites in general) in the U.K. suffer at the hands of others.

Ofcourse racism is not limited to only the U.K. but then that would be like opening a can of worms....

Obviously they are equally repugnant and unacceptable. But isn't it important to make a distinction? It does not serve the cause of equality and fairness to label every form of unpleasantness (to a coloured person or otherwise) as "racism".

No, I assure you there are much worse places.

Imagine her letting rip at the touts :) Ah to be a fly on the wall.

I hope her next crap's a hedghog!!

Agree with John SW about our "homeland" Though I would also mention that we put a lot of stock in being loud, ignorant and aggresive in the UK.
A birthright almost, probably why I choose not to live there (saw the "other side" early on)

Then of course we laugh it all off, with our famous British sense of humour!!

As my Dad often says about Scotland : it's a great country with some great people but there's about three million of them he wouldn't want as neighbours!!

it's racist because it is based purely on her being of Indian origin. if she wasn't (ie if she was white) then they wouldn't be able to say such things, they would be meaningless.

I haven't seen it, but I have certainly heard about it, even way down here on the under side of the world.

absolute trash the whole bb thing in my opinion.

About a decade back Urmila Mathondkar, another bollywood actress said Vinod Kambli (cricketer) is too "BLACK" to have an affair with.

Does that mean only an Indian has the right to call another "BLACK" ?

Here's the lovely Shilpa Shetti at the Zee Carnival with a Children Walking Tall leaflet. Raj (the lucky man) got to meet her at the Carnival and managed to grab her photo to boot!
