As you walk about half a Kilometer from Kashmiri Gate ( easily reachable by metro ) on Lothian Road, next to Kashmiri Gate General Post Office you will reach the Telegraph Memorial. Located within 100 meters to the north of British Magazine and inside a wooden cabin worked the Telegraph officers. In 1857 two British officers Brendish and Pilkington were on duty when the Sepoy mutiny broke out. The news of the mutiny created panic among the Britishers living in and around Delhi. It was from this site that Brendish and Pilkington sent the last signal "we are off" to the garrison at Ambala. They posted this message before evacuating their wooden cabin. There is an inscription on the Memorial that reads 'the electric telegraph has saved India'. I wonder how !!!!
