Well I'm going back to Delhi only six weeks after I left! And I'm stuck for somewhere to stay. Master Guesthouse is full, Yatri House is full, Lasagrita is full....

I'm a woman on my own so I need somewhere safe and reliable....am I going to have to fork out a fortune on an upmarket place? Can anyone recommend a secure place somewhere? Maybe even (I know I'm stretching things with this) somewhere run by women or at least featuring them in the reception area rather than a horde of male faces.  :)

Any ideas? Thanks!

The Star Paradise is fine if you don't mind being on Paharganj!!

What sort of budget are you looking at?

I normally pay Rs. 250 to Rs. 300 around Paharganj - it usually gets me a room with a bathroom and a telly, too, sometimes. The Star Paradise that cyberhippie mentions is a good bet - cheap, safe, attached bathroom, telly, lots of other guests to meet if you're feeling a bit blown away by it all etc. The 'hard-sell' for their tours got a bit wearing last time I stayed there, mind you.

A similar place for a similar price nearby is The Namaskar (Chandiwalan St, just off Paharganj's Main Bazaar) although I've heard complaints of pushy salesmanship there, too.

I've never stayed in a hotel run by women in Delhi, though, so can't help you there, sorry. If it's a relaxing place you're after, a lot of people are heading over to the Tibetan Colony these days - that's meant to be a bit more chilled if you don't fancy Paharganj's frenzy.

Hey,

Just with little googling - I found the following: if you try: "http://travel.guardian.co.uk/article/2006/may/07/delhi.India.ethicalliving" and scroll down in the reader's tip section, you find the following:

"Naari Guest House for Women
Posted by ciaoshazia 22 November 2006

I stayed here for 6 weeks and it is fab. I think this is the only private women-only guesthouse in Delhi and it is safe accommodation for women traveling solo or in groups in Delhi. Home-cooked Indian meals, own bathroom, laundry and airport transfers mean a hassle free and safe way to begin your trip. "

Now I do not know anything about it other than the comment reproduced above, but found the link to their website: "http://www.allworld-vacation.com/India.htm"

Unfortunately, I tried to convert these addresses into links and that did not work - so you'll have to cut and paste in your browser's address window...

Good luck!

PS: Naari means woman in Hindi...
