I shall be in Goa shortly and wondered if Internet access has improved since I was there some 18 months ago?
Apart from the posh hotels are there any wi-fi access points around? Do any of the cafes have a facility for plugging in ones own laptop?
Has the so called broadband got any faster?

There are only 5 Skype Zones in the whole of India, so I don't fancy your chances...
Where WiFi exists, the charge is often far higher than using someone else's computer in a cyber café!
There's free 802.11b at Apple Corner, Opp Hotel Fidalgo, Panjim.
It is said that other hotspots can be found at the following, but who's to say they atually work!
Holiday Inn Goa at Mobor Beach
Intercontinental The Grand Resort, Raj Baga, Canacona
Club Mahendra Hotel Versa Beach
Raj Resorts By the Sea. Bogmalo Beach
Casa De Goa Hotel, Calangute
"Broadband" in India is typically a nominal 256kbps, although speeds can be so slow it feels like dialup, especially at peak times.
Depending on how long you will be in India, you could consider getting R-Connect - a Reliance Mobile Phone on CDMA with USB cable (only works with Windows).
The cost of the kit is about Rs.3500 and the connection costs at Rs.30 an hour, peak, and Rs.15 an hour off peak. Speeds are typically 128kbps for up and downstream - considerably faster than many "broadband" connections.
